I just read both Perz's article and then your response for the first time.

While reading Perz's article I had to backtrack a few times to see if i was completely missing something or he really was writing a bizarre and ridiculous essay. Frankly, it appeared like a university student who has simply googled, copied and pasted a crapload of quotes without actually having any understanding of that which he was talking about - let alone understanding those he quoted.

Your article was neither pro-violence nor attracting violence, rather you just provided an analysis and alternative to Perz's (a more correct and intelligent one I might add).

Refute an obviously stupid argument and your pro-violent? WTF. No offence to Claudette, but unless she is screwing Perz or something, I'd agree that she didn't even read your article. Or why else would she give a big "no" to an article that deconstructs Perz's article and concludes the logical room for both violent and non-violent tactics.

I applaud your article. It is very persuasive and eloquently put in my opinion. As well as very informative where as I would NOT say the same for senor Perz's piece that I would call "what?". Golf claps.

And something worth noting: I don't think Perz is a bad guy at heart, and I don't think he meant to come across the way he did (at least to me) in his article. Neither of those things change my feelings about what he actually wrote, however.

I've received several more contradictory emails from the editor since I posted this. The most recent reason for not running it is that "I think you have ahd (sic) your say, he has had his and I don't want to spend any more money on it."

I don't know that this is really the issue either, but the point is, the article will never run there.

And sorry for the bizarre footnotes that showed up in the PDF. I'm not sure how that happened.

While I agree with Perz on this issue, I am disappointed that Claudette did not agree to post your article. Prehaps the most important debate in the animal rights movement (after welfare vs. abolition), the use of violence for the cause of nonhuman rights is something which we must discuss and evaluate. I find it sad that what could have been a heated exchange between two of the clearest minds in the abolitionist movement has been ignored.
