Dear Listeners,

By the time the Sunday show rolls around, we'll have switched servers. This may interrupt everything a bit, we're not exactly sure yet. It does mean you will have to re-subscribe to Abolition Radio if you subscribe through iTunes, or will have to change the feed for it if you subscribe through some other method. Basically, we'rte going to be deleting our Podserve account and feed, and telling iTunes to remove the show. Then, we're going to tell iTunes to put up a new podcast (don't worry, still us), which will appear identical to the current one, in the iTunes music store. You'll have to subscribe to it.

This also means our website is changing. After this alert, new posts will be located at http://abolitionradio.podbean.com.

It may take iTunes a little while (perhaps even a day or two) to post our new podcast feed, so please bear with us, as it may look like we've vanished.

Cross your fingers! Until then, you can still access us and download shows from the regular feed from Podserve--again, until Sunday.

No-go with the Abolitionist-Online

Remember that article I've written that I mentioned in the past couple of shows? Well, I've been informed--unless something changes pretty drastically--that the Abolitionist-Online won't run my response to Jeff Perz's piece advocating exclusive non-violence as a tactical baseline for the emerging animal rights/abolitionist movement. See Perz's article here. Once the editing is done, I don't really have anywhere else to put it but here. Likely I'll throw it up in Word or PDF format, as that seems to be what most folks use. Here's the response I got from the editor of the Abolitionist-Online (I'm not sure she even read the actual piece before declining it):

"I'm sorry if I sound like a pain but I am having second thoughts about
posting any 'pro-violence' stuff any longer on the website.

It attracts elements that just look for trouble - not you discussing the
in's and out's of it - but I'm going to decline the reposnse to Jeff's
exclusive non-violence on those grounds."

Try and make sense of it. Am I "pro-violence" or am I just "discussing the in's and out's of it ['violence']"? And what "elements that just look for trouble" does this "attract"? Oy vey. The message I took away from this: "We'll give an open platform for Gandhi bullshit, but if you don't talk like MLK, then we won't run your shit anymore." Lovely.

It is strange the way things go: PETA used to be the defacto arm of the Animal Liberation Front. Sadly, today PETA and most other welfarist groups are equally valid targets for the ALF as any fur farm, lab, or abattoir.

The Fascism Show

Our regrettably NPRish show on Fascism. Essentially, this is a thirty minute primer, without getting into too many details. Only after starting the show did we realize there was really no way to cover everything we wanted to in under half an hour. Our next show will be more animal liberation focused, dealing with anti-veg*nism/anti-AR in the anti-capitalist movement.

We're hard at work getting our material ready for the Fascism Show! Expect to hear a lot about Bush's address to the nation about "immigration reform," as well as the McCain-Kennedy bill. We'll also read some excerpts from Rajini Palme Dutt's classic 1934 work, "Fascism and Social Revolution."

Other topics we plan to cover in upcoming shows include nationalism and why it's never "revolutionary," the debate over "violence" in the Animal Liberationist community, and the position and conceptions of veg*nism within radical social justice movements.
